Visited link colours

There has recently been some discussion on [site community profile] dw_suggestions of having visited links be a different colour from unvisited links. There's a request for it to be changed for Tropospherical in particular.

Does this count as an accessibility issue, and if so, is it worth pushing it forwards at all? It sounds like the sort of thing which should be a quick fix.

Actually, for optimal accessibility color should not be the only means of differentiating different types of links. Different colors and bold or not bold or different sorts of underlines would be best. This is an accessibility issue, but with the miracle of CSS, fairly easy to fix.

Well, since that change for Transmogrified is in Bugzilla as "why-accessibility": http://bugs.dwscoalition.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1150 I'd say then it should definitely be considered for the main site schemes.

bold and underline

As with [personal profile] amadi, it would be better to use underlined and bold font attributes in the style-sheet in place of of hovering or visited colors alone. I normally use a Lynx browser (with SSL support) for for logging into DW so the hovering or visited colors wouldn't help.

Yes and yes. And like [personal profile] amadi said, just a color change probably isn't enough. Pretty easy to fix, though.

Adding :focus styles would be nice as well. Sometimes I use keyboard nav on websites and :focus is always something I'm grateful for.

workaround

I'm in favour of a more general solution, but for Transmogrified I've got a workaround, with the help of [personal profile] kate_nepveu:

(The colour numbers in there are for my green-and-lavender.)

Yes, but it should be as flexible as possible so the end user can chose exactly what they need and prefer. Finding properly contrasting sets of link colours against different background colours is difficult at the best of times, when you start to factor in different levels of colour perception it can become a real tangle. So giving the end user the ultimate control for every basic style should be the goal.
