Testing /manage/circle/edit overhaul

I'm working on making the manage circle page better, including adding accessibility improvements. Problem is, I don't use a lot of accessibility tools (computer-wise), and I don't have the slightest clue what's useful for, say, someone with a screen reader.

So.

If you would like to create an account on my dreamhack and thwonk away at it, that would be wonderful -- one thing I haven't tried is what happens with more than, like, five accounts. Comment here, or catch me on IRC, and I'll throw you a code.

If you don't want to do that, feel free to look at the form as seen by a logged-in account. (Don't worry, with this trick you can't change anything. But you can still poke.)

BTW: I have only changed the top half (current relationships). The bottom half (add relationships) still lacks accessibility stuff; I'm planning on adding that, but figured I'd fling people at this first.

And I would love feedback. Especially wrt accessibility stuff (is there enough information for screen readers? is there *too much* information, making it confusing? can you tell what's what? are there things I should be aware of?), but from any perspective is good.

Right now, in the people box, the your status column, there are checkmarks, as if I can change how the other personal account relates to me, which I can't. This is very confusing.

Also, I don't think Subscribe? and Give Access? should have question marks, since they are reporting your current status, as well as giving you the chance to change your status, but that just might be me.

Also, the bottom half doesn't appear to have a separate save button? Is that on purpose?

It's not accessibility as such, but I'd really like to be able to see quickly and easily if there are any people who've subscribed to me who I haven't given access to. I know I can see people who've subscribed to me who I haven't subscribed to on my profile, but I lock most posts, so someone who's subscribed who I haven't given access won't see much. Possibly this should go in suggestions, but if it's easy to bear in mind as you're designing things, that would be good.

Mostly this is very cool - I'd be happy to whack on it later if you give me a code!

Firstly, here's a gold star for tackling difficult problems! *hands Ysobel a gold star*

What [personal profile] zvi said about the checkmarks and grammar I agree with. I'm not sure what a good replacement for the checkboxes would be though - perhaps just the text with the tick/cross silk icons.

Using tables for the actual visible tables (people, communities, feeds, and add relationships) is good and appropriate but you've also got a table there which is just for layout - it's around the people/communities/feeds and has "editfriendsframe" for the class. Could we instead use a div and some CSS? tables for layout are really confusing for lots of accessibility reasons.

I love the standing out "save changes" button, but the styling should be done with a div or span around the button instead of another layout table. If you need a hand with CSS replacing tables I'll give you one of my hands willingly - just ask.

Also, I'm not a screen reader user, the summaries look cool to me and you can have extra cookies and a pony for putting the scope attribute in there!

Thank you! \o/

PS
It looks like the standout on buttons is a site scheme issue, not your issue, so I shall lodge a site scheme bug. Oopses!

Ah-ha, you fixed the annoying lack of taggage on the checkboxes. My screenreader now knows what each one is fore. Nice.

I browse at very large font sizes, so horizontal space is at a premium.

Can People, Communities, Feeds each be on their own line, so the people group won't get squished up against the community group?

I'm viewing with Lynx and all is well, but you may wish to remove the "center" elements and attributes, unless they are needed for other web browsers.
